Exemplar derſelben an jeden Delegaten verteilt werde.
lich überlaſſen, auf welche Weiſe ſie dieſe Summe aufbringen will, ſo⸗
lange es in rechter Weiſe geſchieht.

172 Proceedings of the 28th General or
...so large. The work we carry on is, after all, the work of God, our Savior. He has commanded us to preach the Gospel to every creature. For that we need preachers, and in order to be able to equip young people for the preaching office, we need the necessary institutions for it, and we also have the duty to keep them up. Our Christians would no doubt be more generous if we, pastors and deputies, made them better acquainted with our Synod's needs. If we make this a real concern of ours, we will no longer have to complain of want in the three main funds named."
Resolved, that these resolutions, together with the note, be printed once more in the *Lutheraner* and also in the *Lutheran Witness*, and that a copy of them be distributed to every delegate.
Resolved, to recommend to every congregation — as was already done in 1908 — that it set a fixed sum as its annual contribution to the Synodical Treasury, which it then raises among itself through regular collections and sends to the treasurer at intervals it has set, so that the income for this fund is not subject to such great fluctuations.
The resolutions adopted on this in 1908, which were circulated in more than 100,000 copies, read:
"1. The Synod again asks all its congregations to bear well in mind that the Synod's budget is the budget of every individual congregation that makes it up. It asks all its pastors to lay this matter before their congregations, to make clear to them what an important matter for God's kingdom is at stake here, and to draw and stir them with the Gospel, so that by God's grace they become ever more willing and joyful toward this work.
"2. The Synod urgently recommends to all congregations connected with it that they set a fixed, if possible monthly, contribution for the Synodical Treasury and report the amount of this contribution to their district treasurer. It is naturally left to each congregation in what way it wants to raise this sum, so long as it is done in the proper way.
"3. The General President, together with the General Treasurer, shall be responsible for determining annually what sum is to be raised from the congregations in the year in question in order to maintain the Synod's budget. This sum shall be announced to the congregations at the beginning of each year through the *Lutheraner*. The current state of the Synodical Treasury shall be reported quarterly in the *Lutheraner*.
"4. The Synod again points to the resolutions it adopted in 1905 (see the Synodical Report, p. 138), and asks the Synod's officers concerned faithfully to carry out these resolutions."
