Agende.
etliche Fälle eine Vermehrung der Antiphonen u. Kollekten ratſam ſei;
etwa ſo: a. Gottes Wort; Öffentlicher Gottesdienſt; b. Kirche und
Miſſion; c. Buße, Glaube, Rechtfertigung; d. Heiligung, chriſtliches
Leben; e.
3. Ihr Komitee empfiehlt Prof. L. Fürbringer

152 Proceedings of the 28th General or
...resolve, since the Concordia Publishing House already plans, on a trial basis, to issue individual parts of such a Bible.
Resolved — concerning the publication of a little book of melodies — that the Reverend Synod arrange for the production of a hymnal with four-part settings for every hymn; and at the same time to recommend to the Board of Directors that the planned publication of a new chorale book be combined with the publication of this hymnal.
Resolved, to recommend to the Board of Directors the publication of further "lodge literature" [i.e., literature exposing and warning against the secret lodges].
Resolved — concerning a petition about changing the text of Romans 3:20 in our German Bible — that Luther's translation remain unchanged.
Resolved — concerning a private petition about the Synodical catechism — that the sender be referred to his pastor.
Resolved — concerning a further petition about our catechism — that this petition be referred to the appropriate catechism committee in St. Louis.
Agenda [the Synod's official liturgical service book].
The following report of Committee No. 21 was adopted:
"The undersigned committee, charged with deliberating on the petition (p. 118) concerning improvements to the Agenda, submits the following report to the Reverend Synod.
"We agree, by and large, with the recommendations of the commission. The commission holds, together with your committee, that for some cases an increase in the antiphons and collects is advisable; further, that a topical grouping of the collects is worth recommending, along these lines: a. God's Word; Public Worship; b. Church and Mission; c. Repentance, Faith, Justification; d. Sanctification, the Christian Life; e. Prayer and Thanksgiving; f. Government and Protection; the Use of Temporal Goods; g. Comfort and Strength; h. Christian Readiness, a Blessed Death, and Eternal Life.
"With respect to new material to be included, the commission agrees with your committee that a short form [*Formular* — a set liturgical order] for a reading service [*Lesegottesdienst* — a service of worship conducted by reading, without an ordained minister officiating] should also be recommended; further, a second prayer for confirmation, such as the one from Dr. Walther's epistle sermons in shortened form, one for New Year's Eve, and several short mission prayers for mission festivals.
"Your committee recommends to the Reverend Synod: 1. that a revision of the Agenda be resolved on the basis of the proposals thus made by the commission. 2. Since your committee is convinced that a profitable discussion of the individual points before the Synod would be too time-consuming, it recommends to the Reverend Synod that the revision and publication be handed over to a committee. 3. Your committee recommends Prof. L. Fürbringer
