13. Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1911. 55
größtenteils ſchon bar an Hand.
Nach ſorgfältiger Be⸗
Beſchloſſen:
1. für eine Heizanlage $1650.00 zu bewilligen;
geſammelt hat) $5000.00 zu bewilligen;
Errichtung des Muſikgebäudes herzlich zu danken;

13th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1911. 55
owns one; b. that the basement is divided by simple board partitions into
small rooms, so that the sounds of one instrument carry into the room of
another, which is very disturbing to those practicing; c. that there is
otherwise no other place available to put the instruments. Now since
music instruction at a teachers' seminary is no incidental or even
superfluous matter, but a very necessary one — one does, after all,
demand of our teachers trained here that they meet the musical
requirements placed on them in church and school — everyone must, on
the basis of the facts stated above, admit that a music building of its
own for Seward is no luxury but an urgent necessity, needed to remedy a
sorry state of affairs.
The Nebraska District of our Reverend Synod has likewise recognized
this and accordingly resolved, at its meeting in October of last year, to
appropriate $10,000.00 for the erection of such a building. Even if this
entire sum will not be raised within our district, certainly the greater
part of it will be. Indeed, as we write this, $5500.00 has already been
pledged and is for the most part already in hand in cash.
It is thus a comparatively small sum that we are asking of the
Reverend Synod, and that is the other reason we venture to make the
above request. The proposed music building, for which a detailed plan
is available, is a two-story structure with a basement (44 by 59 feet)
containing 20 rooms to house the instruments. According to the careful
calculation of experts, this building can be completed in full, including
heating and interior fittings (musical instruments), for $12,000.00.
We now ask the Reverend Synod to come to our aid with $5000.00
toward erecting this building, so necessary for its institution.
Finally, we believe we ought to draw the Reverend Synod's attention
to whether it wishes to go on paying rent for two of its professors, or
whether it would rather purchase the residences in question. The owner
offers the two residences for sale at $7500.00. The rent amounts to
$18.00 each per month. —
Resolved:
1. To appropriate $1650.00 for a heating system;
2. To appropriate $5000.00 for a music building (toward whose
construction the Nebraska District has already collected most of the
necessary money among its own members);
3. To thank the Nebraska District heartily for the sum already
collected toward erecting the music building;
4. To refrain for now from purchasing the two professors' residences
offered to the Synod, and instead to rent them for a further three years.
