13. Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1911. 69
keine dieſer Wohnungen mehr als $6000.00 koſten;
erwachſenen Schuld abzutragen;
Sprache.

13th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1911. 69
It was therefore resolved:
1. to authorize the board of oversight at Bronxville to build the six
absolutely necessary professors' residences, if it can obtain the
money needed for this at a low interest rate; but none of these
dwellings may cost more than $6,000.00;
2. that the synod hereby obligates itself to pay off one third of the
debt arising from this construction during the next triennium
(1914–1917);
3. but if the board of oversight there is unable to issue legally
valid promissory notes for the borrowed money, the General Treasurer
of the synod is hereby instructed to sign the promissory notes
(notes) in the name of the synod.
St. John's College at Winfield, Kans.
This institution, offered to us three years ago by the English Synod
and taken over by us, had been placed for the past triennium under
the care of the Kansas District. Resolutions of the Kansas District
and a detailed report by the board of oversight on the institution
and its needs were before the synod in print, as follows:
At its last session (May 1908), on taking over St. John's College,
the Reverend General Synod adopted, among others, the following
resolution: "Resolved, to encourage the Kansas District to take
charge of this institution for the coming triennium and to give a
detailed report to the next General Synod."
The Kansas District has complied with this wish to the best of its
knowledge and conscience. Whether it has discharged its by no means
easy task to the full satisfaction of the Reverend General Synod is
now for the synod to judge.
On behalf of the Kansas District, we, the undersigned board of
oversight, hereby give the Reverend General Synod the "detailed
report" owed to it.
The institution three years ago and now.
We found the institution to be a full gymnasium with 4 teachers, 3 of
whom are theologians. The purpose of the institution was, in the
first place, the training of future preachers for the building of
God's kingdom. At the same time, however, it also admitted male and
female students who only wished to acquire a general education. As an
annex, a business course, a so-called Business Department, had been
set up for boys and girls. A separate, professionally trained teacher
was employed for this department. The Business Department supported
itself through the tuition charged and made no claim whatsoever on
church contributions. The medium of instruction at the institution
was, with few exceptions, the English language.
