13. Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1911. 191

13th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1911. 191

teacher of the same, it behooves us, in keeping with Paul's word,
'Remember your teachers, who have spoken to you the word of
God,' etc., that we festively observe the hundredth birthday of this
father of the Synod in every part of it.

"Your committee takes the liberty of making the following
proposals regarding this celebration:

"1. That, in view of the merits of the dear Walther for the
Lutheran congregational life of America, a fitting celebration be
held in all congregations of the Synod.

"2. Since the 19th Sunday after Trinity, which this year falls on
October 22, is the closest to the date of Walther's birthday, October
25, your committee takes the liberty of proposing that the Walther
celebration take place on that day.

"3. Since the wish has been expressed from various quarters that,
for the sake of uniformity of the celebration and for the benefit of
visitors from elsewhere, a printed program should appear, it would
seem fitting that Concordia Publishing House publish such a
program in German and English.

"4. In view of the fact that Dr. Walther was the chief founder of
our educational institutions and for many years a teacher at the
theological seminary in St. Louis, your committee proposes that, on
October 25, 1911, the 100th birthday of the blessed Walther, all the
institutions of our Synod hold a special celebration in memory of
this man, so highly deserving in the cause of our institutions.

"5. Finally, your committee takes the liberty of proposing that on
the day of the celebration, October 22, a special collection be taken
up in all congregations, to flow, under the name 'Walther Fund,'
into the church-building fund.

"Regarding 1917, the following:

"Since it is certainly the wish of the whole faithful Lutheran
Church of our land to observe the four-hundredth jubilee of the
Reformation in a truly worthy manner, your committee proposes
that the Reverend Synod elect a commission for preparation and
instruct it to present to the General Synod in 1914 a unified and, as
far as possible, precisely specified plan for this celebration.

"W. Rudolph, Chairman.
"Geo. W. Müller.
"T. J. Koch, Secretary.
"Jos. G. Weinhold."

Resolved, that the General Presidium establish such a
commission.
