September jenes Jahres hier eintrat, wieder beſetzt worden.

44 Proceedings of the 28th General or
The institution's faculty had requested that henceforth not all
members of the faculty be required to attend the Western District's
synodical assemblies and pastoral conferences when such meetings fall
within the academic year, but that the faculty be allowed to be
represented instead by a delegation of a few members. This request of
the faculty was recommended for adoption by the committee and carried
by the Synod.
Resolved, that an eighth position be filled in St. Louis, whether as an
eighth professor or as editor of the periodicals, and that the faculty, in
conjunction with the board of control, make the decision, but that the
election of this person in either case be made by the electoral college.
(Minutes of May 19, afternoon session. See the same resolution under
"Union of the English and German Synod.")
Concordia Seminary, Springfield, Ill.
The following report of the worthy board of control of this institution
was before the Reverend Synod and Committee 1:
By God's grace, instruction at this institution has, during the past
triennium, been able to proceed under blessing and has been little
disturbed. The institution has not again, as in the previous triennium, had
to be temporarily closed on account of an outbreak of contagious disease
among the student body. Of the professors, only one had to suspend his
work temporarily on account of illness, and that for only a few weeks.
The professorship left vacant in 1908 by Prof. Schlüter's departure was
filled again in 1909 by Prof. O. Böcler, who took up his post here in
September of that year. The work of the vacant professorship during the
year of the vacancy was carried out, as well as could be managed, by the
remaining professors with the help of some students.
The number of students here amounted, in the school year 1908 to
1909, to 213; in the school year 1909–1910: 217; in the school year
1910 to 1911: 226. These figures include the Wisconsin, Slovak, and
vicaring students. In 1908, 28 candidates entered the preaching office; in
the following year, 35; and last year (1910), 31. In 1908, 46 applications
for vicars came in, of which 31 were satisfied; in 1909, 35 of 78
applications were granted; in 1910 only 52 of 88 applications could be
met. During the past triennium several cases of serious illness occurred,
though no deaths. Last winter there were a few cases of diphtheria and
scarlet fever. In order to prevent whole buildings from being placed
under quarantine, or even the institution having to be temporarily closed
