„A. v. Schlichten jun.
„Hochachtungsvoll
„H. A. Brandt. C. Zollmann. Theo. v. Schlichten.“
wählten Committee waren folgende: Prof. Herzer, Springfield,
Ill.; P. H. Daib, Merrill, Wis.; Prof. Weller, Seward, Nebr.;
P. J. Grabarkewitz, Good Thunder, Minn.; P. H. Lobeck,
Cape Girardeau, Mo.; Präſes W. Lüſſenhop, Portland, Oreg.;
P. Th. Engelder, Mount Clemens, Mich. — Lehrer: P. Gem⸗
pel, Leavenworth, Kanſ.; O. Kolb, Chicago, Ill.; E. H. Engel⸗
brecht, New York, N. Y. — Deputirte: Köpſel (Wis.); Niemann
(Kanſ.); Nüchterlein (Mich.). — In Bezug auf vorſtehende Appel⸗
lation, unterzeichnet von den Paſtoren A. v. Schlichten jun., H. A.

opportunity to answer publicly before their judge, against their accuser.
"Wishing you God's blessing upon your deliberations, I remain, with all respect,

"A. v. Schlichten Jr.
"We subscribe to the foregoing statements and hereby make them, without reservation, our own.
"Respectfully
"H. A. Brandt. C. Zollmann. Theo. v. Schlichten."
Note: Since it was not possible for the Synod as such to examine for itself the numerous and voluminous documents present in this matter, it appointed a committee to examine and evaluate them. In doing so — in order to avoid any appearance of partiality — the greatest care was exercised. The nominating committee appointed by the Synod was instructed to name to the Synod 14 pastors, 6 teachers, and 6 delegates who had at no time been connected in any way with the Cincinnati matter. From these 26 nominated candidates, the Synod itself then made its selection.
Resolved, that a committee of 7 pastors (or professors), 3 teachers, and 3 delegates be appointed to examine and evaluate carefully the documents concerning the Cincinnati matter.
Note: The members of this committee, elected by the Synod itself, were as follows: Prof. Herzer, Springfield, Ill.; Pastor H. Daib, Merrill, Wis.; Prof. Weller, Seward, Nebr.; Pastor J. Grabarkewitz, Good Thunder, Minn.; Pastor H. Lobeck, Cape Girardeau, Mo.; President W. Lüssenhop, Portland, Oreg.; Pastor Th. Engelder, Mount Clemens, Mich. — Teachers: P. Gempel, Leavenworth, Kans.; O. Kolb, Chicago, Ill.; E. H. Engelbrecht, New York, N. Y. — Delegates: Köpsel (Wis.); Niemann (Kans.); Nüchterlein (Mich.). — With regard to the foregoing appeal, signed by Pastors A. v. Schlichten Jr., H. A. Brandt, C. Zollmann, and Theo. v. Schlichten, the committee elected by the Synod and made up of the persons named above rendered the following opinion:
"This appeal raises the charge against the Central District that the District's President
