kunft zu geben.

in rechter Weiſe ausgeführt werde.

8. Beſchloſſen, daß die Eingabe einer unſerer Gemeinden

11th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1905. 139

...funds not to be forgotten; he shall also be ready to give all necessary information.

3. At visitations in the individual congregations he shall inquire about the contributions to the funds named and encourage them.

4. Every visitor shall also report annually on this part of his official activity to the district president, so that the latter has occasion to encourage the carrying out of the good system, where necessary.

5. At about the time of the so-called distribution of the candidates, the General President shall obtain information about the contributions from the district presidents and see to it that the system is carried out properly.

Note: The three main funds named (the Synodical, Building, and Home Missions funds) are, in particular, the funds indispensably necessary for carrying on the work that God has entrusted to us. Our household — which we conduct, after all, only for the spread of the kingdom of God — is a very large one. Not that we planned it to be so large, but our God has, through his blessing, let it grow so large. The work we carry on is, after all, the work of God our Savior. He has commanded us to preach the Gospel to every creature. For this we need preachers, and in order to be able to equip young people for the preaching office we need the necessary institutions for it and also have the duty to maintain them. Our members would doubtless be more generous if we pastors and delegates made them better acquainted with our Synod's needs. If we take this properly to heart, we will no longer have shortages to complain of in the three main funds named.

7. Resolved, that the content of the petition of the Pastoral Conference of Chicago (see p. 132) be adopted fully and completely, and that the three points recommended there by the said conference be given effect, in their exact wording, as a directive of the Synod.

Note: This resolution also covers an "immediate petition" submitted by the Zion congregation of Addison, Ill., the content of which raises the same subject and the same recommendations.

8. Resolved, that the petition of one of our congregations in the State of Indiana — to the effect that the Synod arrange for each of our congregations to raise, per voting member, a regular annual contribution of at least 25 cents for the
