11. Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1905. 35

„d. Endlich herrſcht in der Anſtalt großer Mangel an
Raum.

11th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1905. 35

"b. Granting this request would necessarily make another grant
necessary as well, namely the provision of housing for the new
professor, for which the board of control hereby likewise asks the
Reverend Synod.

"c. Furthermore, we should have a classroom that could be used
exclusively for instruction in the natural sciences.

"d. Finally, there is a great lack of space at the institution. Given
the present number of students, there is a lack not only of sleeping
space but also of sufficient rooms for living and study quarters. At
the beginning of the last school year we were forced to set up
several beds in the hallways. That may work for a few days, but not
in the long run, and not during the winter months. For some time the
board of control seriously considered renting a house, and would
probably have done so, if only a suitable one had been available in
the village. We must therefore create more space. And we believe the
Reverend Synod could do this most easily and practically by erecting
a suitable building on the seminary grounds that could house not only
all the musical instruments (organs and pianos), but could also
provide room for a classroom for the natural sciences, another for
drawing instruction, and yet another as a dormitory. According to
inquiries made, such a building could be erected and furnished for
about $25,000.00. By erecting such a building, all the organs and
pianos would at once be removed from the present buildings, making
room for living quarters. This would also, in turn, eliminate the
great disturbance caused by the incessant playing so close to the
study rooms. And finally, it would also greatly ease the supervision
of the individual students' practice hours. — We most cordially ask
the Reverend Synod to discuss all these points thoroughly and to
reject none of them to the institution's detriment.

"9. The board of control leaves it to the Reverend Synod to consider
whether it would not be highly advisable for the institution's
students who receive music instruction to pay, from now on, $2.00
per year for the use of the organ and $1.00 per year for the use of
the piano, in order to make it possible for the instruments to always
be kept in good condition.

"10. Finally, let it also be mentioned that, through Rev.
Engelbrecht's assumption of the presidency, a vacancy arose in the...
