„1. Es ſoll eine Präparandenanſtalt für Negerzöglinge errichtet
werden.

„2. Alles, was zur Ausführung dieſes Beſchluſſes gehört, bleibt
der Commiſſion für Negermiſſion überlaſſen.

106 Proceedings of the 26th General or

"1. A preparatory institute for Negro students shall be established.

"2. Everything pertaining to carrying out this resolution is left to the Commission for the Negro Mission.

"3. This commission shall, however, establish one or two institutes of this kind as soon as possible.

"These resolutions have been carried out, and God has given His blessing to it. We now have two Negro colleges — namely, one in New Orleans, La., under the direction of Pastor Lankenau, and the other in Concord, N.C., under the direction of Pastors Bakke and Wahlers. — In 1904, at the last Synodical Conference, the following resolutions were then adopted:

"1. The commission was instructed to organize and use the mission's two preparatory institutes in North Carolina and Louisiana in such a way that future mission teachers would be fully trained there.

"2. Negro girls, too, are to be admitted to these preparatory institutes and, as occasion arises, trained as teachers for the mission.

"3. The commission was instructed to purchase a larger piece of land for the institute in North Carolina and to erect suitable buildings on it. For this purpose the commission was allocated the sum of $10,000.00 to $15,000.00.

"We are glad to report that the new college building in New Orleans, La., has been completed and also paid for. Now the task is to collect diligently for the new college in Greensboro, N.C., so that it too can soon be paid for. — Greensboro, N.C., currently has a little over 20,000 inhabitants, has six railroads, various larger schools, and is a lively business city — the 'Gate City of North Carolina.' In this promising city we have acquired, at the present city limits, a beautiful, larger piece of land — at a bargain — and are now just about to erect a suitable building (college) on this property.

"The resolution of the 1904 Synodical Conference states, among other things: 'For this purpose the commission was allocated the sum of $10,000.00 to $15,000.00.'

"We also believe that this sum allocated to us can be collected.

"The new college in Greensboro is named Immanuel. But Immanuel means in German: 'God with us,' and we believe that God will be with us in this work of His. He will
