11. Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1905. 113

an Ihre Ehrw.
der Engliſchen Miſſouri⸗Synode, Herrn Prof. A. W. Meyer.)

1. Beſchloſſen, daß die Commiſſion für engliſche Miſſion
aufgelöſt werde.

2. Beſchloſſen, daß alle engliſche Miſſionsarbeit inmitten
unſerer Synode den einzelnen betreffenden Diſtrictscommiſſionen für
Innere Miſſion unterſtellt werde.

11th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1905. 113

"Should it nevertheless become apparent that the Reverend Synod either cannot take over St. John's College at all, or in any case cannot continue it as a full college-preparatory school, then, at the request of the board of trustees and of the English Synod (through the appropriate committee), the question and request is herewith put forward whether the annual support of $3,000.00 might not continue to be given in the future as well, in order to make the institution's survival possible." (Petition of the English Missouri Synod.)

"By resolution of our Synod, I ask you, Reverend President, to bring before your Reverend Synod the question of whether ways and means could not be found to remove the obstacles which, in 1887, made it impossible for us to become a District of the German Missouri Synod." (Petition of the President of the English Missouri Synod, Prof. A. W. Meyer.)

1. Resolved, that the Commission for English Mission be dissolved.

2. Resolved, that all English mission work within our Synod be placed under the respective District Commissions for Home Missions.

3. Resolved, that the treasury for General English Mission be discontinued as of July 1 of this year, with the provision that all funds still coming in later for this treasury flow into the treasury of General Home Missions.

4. Resolved, that Section 7, Chapter II of our Synod's Constitution, reading: "Exclusive use of the German language at the Synod's conventions. Only guests may address the Synod in other languages, if they are not proficient in German" (see "Synodical Handbook," 4th ed., p. 2), shall remain unchanged.

5. Resolved, that the Synod, from now on, also receive English-speaking congregations, pastors, and teachers, or retain them in its membership.

6. Resolved, that in the future, as a rule, English congregations not be founded by us within the territory of German congregations, but that the German congregations themselves take on the need for church care in the English language that appears in their midst, or within their territory, as is already the case in hundreds of places within our Synod.

Note: The number of pastors in our Synod who, besides preaching in German, must also preach in English, has already risen to 375 to 400!
