11. Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1905. 151

11th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1905. 151
...would form synodical districts. A resolution was therefore adopted that a petition, signed by the president and secretary of the district, be submitted to the Honorable General Synod, requesting the division of the Southern District's synodical territory. It is the request of the Southern District that our congregations in the State of Texas form their own district under the name "Texas District of the Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States," and that the part of the present Southern District lying east of Texas likewise organize itself into a new district, retaining the old name "Southern District," etc." (Petition of the Southern District.)
1. Resolved, that the Southern District's request for division be granted, in the manner in which it is requested in the petition.
Remark: Since, after the division has taken place, the remaining Southern District will comprise only a very small territory, the question was raised whether the States of Arkansas and Tennessee, which up to now belong to the Western District, could not be united with the Southern District.
2. Resolved, that the Synod give its consent to the union of the two states named — or also of just one of them, namely Tennessee — with the Southern District, if the Western District declares itself in agreement with this union.
II. "At its last convention at Hamburg, the Minnesota and Dakota District considered the division of this district. Since this question took up an extraordinary amount of time, a brief historical account of the proceedings that preceded this petition will surely be of interest to the Honorable Delegate Synod.
"The matter had been discussed at all the larger conferences, and the most varied recommendations regarding the division were made to the Synod. Three of these proposals were seriously considered: first, the proposal to postpone the division for a few more years, because a present separation might harm this district's blessed Home Mission work, and to accomplish the housing of the Synod by applying a "hotel plan" submitted to the Synod. A proposal that the so-called hotel plan be abandoned altogether was voted down; but the Synod finally rejected the proposal not to divide yet.
"The Synod then took up a proposal which recommended a division into two — as the most expedient, on account of housing the Synod — namely, North Minnesota, North Dakota, and
