liſchen Synode an.
Beide
1. Februar dieſes Jahres hatte der Allgemeine Kaſſirer, Herr J. F.
Schuricht, $626.74 in Kaſſe.

68 Proceedings of the 26th General or
"In Western Australia, home mission work was carried on by Pastor
Fischer over a large territory, in which, in the first year of his work, he
covered 30,000 miles. 'Something well-nigh inhuman was demanded of
him,' D. Gräbner judged, 'in that he had to care for this large field
alone.' Candidate Mensing from our seminary in St. Louis was sent to
Western Australia in 1903 to share the work there with Pastor Fischer.
Unfortunately, however, he had to give up the mission work already in
the following year and accepted a call to a congregation of the South
Australian Synod.
"On the North Island of New Zealand, Pastors Bläss and Klitscher were
at work three years ago, the former among the Maori and the latter
serving the congregations at Marton and Halcombe. Both worked, as
much as they were able, among our scattered fellow believers. In 1903
Candidate Winkler traveled with Candidate Mensing to that distant part
of the world and devoted himself entirely to the mission work among our
fellow believers on the North Island of New Zealand. He remains in that
work to this day and carries on the Lord's work there under great
hardships, but also under rich blessing from God. At the request of the
Hermannsburg Free Church, he has for about a year now been placed
directly under the direction of the undersigned committee.
"Soon after our previous Delegate Synod, the Lord of the Church called
Pastor Klitscher from his labor to the rest of the people of God, leaving
the congregations at Marton and Halcombe vacant. This parish then
divided. The congregation at Marton, through the mediation of your
committee, called Pastor Teyler of Anamoosa, S. Dak., who recognized
the call as divine and accepted it. The relocation costs, amounting to
$446.90, were advanced to the congregation from the mission fund
concerned, of which it has already repaid $121.75.
"As for money, thank God, the fund for the mission in Australia and
New Zealand has not been lacking. Receipts in 1903 amounted to
$1,659.45 and expenditures to $1,025.00. In 1904, $1,523.64 was
received and $896.90 spent. On February 1 of this year the general
treasurer, Mr. J. F. Schuricht, had $626.74 on hand.
"But there is one thing lacking there, and that is workers. Urgent
requests for preachers have repeatedly come before your committee;
calls have been in their hands for over a year now; but every attempt to
win men for the work there has been in vain,
