wegen Mangels an Zeit doch nichts Ordentliches in dieſem Fach ge⸗

36 Proceedings of the 26th General or

...board of control arose, which was filled by the election of Rev.
P. Theo. Kohn." (Report of the Board of Control at Addison, Ill.)

1. Resolved, that a new professorship be established at the
Teachers' Seminary at Addison, and that consequently an additional
professor, the ninth in number, be appointed.

2. Resolved, that the Synod authorize the board of control to build
a new residence for the ninth professor, for which building the Synod
grants the sum of $3,500.00.

3. Resolved, that this building be exempted from the three-thirds
rule (see below, "Board of Directors, Agency, and Treasury"), since a
residence for the new professor, needed as soon as possible, cannot
be obtained in any other way.

4. Resolved, that the board of control's request for relief of the
space shortage through the erection of a building costing about
$25,000.00 be denied, and that the board of control be instructed to
make do, at least for the next three years, as best it can.

5. Resolved, that the motion to separate the pro-seminary at Addison
from the seminary and transplant the former to a state farther east
be denied.

6. Resolved, that the motion to add a sixth school year to the
previous five-year course likewise be denied; the five-year course
shall remain in place, at least for the present.

7. Resolved, that regarding the minimum requirements for admission
to the seminary, the Synod declares itself satisfied, since proof was
given that the requirements have already been raised for some time,
so that they considerably exceed the standard set by the Synod, as
anyone may convince himself by examining the fifth class's curriculum
in the catalog of the institutions.

8. Resolved, that the motion to introduce instruction in the Latin
language at the seminary be denied, since for lack of time nothing
proper could be accomplished in this subject, and with only a
five-year course of study the students would be burdened beyond
measure.

9. Resolved, that instruction in violin playing no longer be
obligatory, that is, binding on every student, but that it instead be
made elective, that is, to take place according to each student's
aptitude and especially according to the judgment of the music
teacher. No student shall be dismissed from the institution for
lacking talent for violin playing.
