In

$10,000.00, and prepared everything for the students' instruction
to begin in the fall. The professor called by the society accepted
the call and began his work with 12 students. This year the
society has called a second professor, who has likewise accepted
the call. The society is now willing to maintain the institution
itself and also to pay the professors' salaries. But since the
society, which is itself without means, acquired the property on
credit, it asks the synod to help it with half of the purchase price,
namely $5000.00. The society believes it can raise the other half
itself. — Since this concerns the building of the Kingdom of God
in the South of our country, the synod declared itself willing,
under a certain condition, to grant the request addressed to it by
the College Society named.

1. Resolved, that the synod approves the founding of the College
Society at New Orleans and its proceedings in the college matter.

2. Resolved, that the synod grants the sum of $5000.00 requested
by the College Society, on the condition that this sum of $5000.00
granted by the synod not be paid out until the institution has been
handed over by the society to the Southern District, that is, has
become its property.

Inquiry concerning a Progymnasium in California.

"Dear fathers and brothers in Christ! In the synodical report of
the California and Nevada District for the year 1904 the following
passage is found on page 92:

" 'The conviction had long since forced itself upon the members
of our district that, because of the great distance of our
educational institutions, we ought to have an institution of our
own on this coast, at least a Progymnasium, and this conviction
was further strengthened by the proposals of the Reverend General
Presidium and the discussions that followed from them. This
matter was accordingly given serious consideration, and a
committee was chosen, consisting of the members of the mission
commission, to weigh the matter thoroughly and make suitable
proposals to the synod. This committee submitted the following
report:

" ' "To the Reverend Synod of the California and Nevada
District.

" ' "Your committee, which was charged with making proposals
to the synod concerning a Progymnasium that might possibly be
established on this coast,
