noth an.

32 Proceedings of the 26th General or
...and the tower must be renewed, or thoroughly repaired. That may
cost between $4,000.00 and $5,000.00. Furthermore, an additional
classroom is an absolute necessity. There are only three classrooms
available, which is at least one too few. Setting up such a room does
not require new construction, but does require breaking through
several walls in one of the existing buildings. And furnishing the
classroom also costs something. On this occasion we would also note
that the establishment of a third pro-seminary class is increasingly
felt to be an urgent need. — Finally, we would also ask the Reverend
Synod to consider whether the institution at Springfield should not
also be incorporated.
"As the present board of control now returns its office into the
hands of the Reverend Synod, its prayer is: 'The Lord our God be
gracious to us, and prosper the work of our hands among us for
Christ's sake!'" (Report of the Board of Control at Springfield,
Ill.)
1. Resolved, that the pension granted by the board of control to
Prof. J. S. Simon continue until January 1, 1906, from which time the
Relief Committee established by the Synod shall take the pension
matter into its own hands and likewise provide for it as needed.
2. Resolved, that the sum of $5,000.00 be granted for the repair of
the old college building, called Building No. 1, and for fitting up
an additional classroom.
3. Resolved, that the request for the establishment of a third
pro-seminary class be denied.
4. Resolved, that the institution at Springfield, as such, not be
incorporated, since the incorporation of the General Synod suffices
also for the Seminary at Springfield.
Note 1: Regarding the music instruction to be given at the
institution, see page 53 of this report.
Note 2: Although the resolution of an earlier synod, that the number
of students at the Springfield institution should not exceed 175, is
still in force (see the report of the 1902 Delegate Synod, p. 43), the
Synod has nevertheless tacitly recognized the suspension of this
resolution by the General Presidency on account of the persistently
great shortage of preachers.
