116 Verhandlungen der 26. Allgemeinen oder
J. A. Theiß; ‚Sechs Orgelcompoſitionen‘ von G. A. Käppel; ‚Geiſt⸗
liche Lieder für Männerchöre‘, Heft 4 bis 9; ‚Singet dem HErrn!
Eine Sammlung geiſtlicher Geſänge für gemiſchte Chöre‘, Heft
1 bis 3; ‚Katechismuspredigten‘, Band I, von P. C. C. Schmidt.
„In Arbeit ſind und ſehen ihrer Fertigſtellung entgegen: ‚Lei⸗
chenreden‘ von P. C. Groß; ‘Hymnal for Evangelical Lutheran
„Die Herausgabe einer ‘History of the United States’ konnte
In vielen Fällen

116 Proceedings of the 26th General or
...J. A. Theiss; 'Six Organ Compositions' [Sechs Orgelcompositionen] by G. A. Käppel; 'Sacred Songs for Men's Choirs' [Geistliche Lieder für Männerchöre], issues 4 to 9; 'Sing to the Lord! A Collection of Sacred Songs for Mixed Choirs' [Singet dem HErrn! Eine Sammlung geistlicher Gesänge für gemischte Chöre], issues 1 to 3; 'Catechism Sermons' [Katechismuspredigten], vol. I, by P. C. C. Schmidt.
"In progress and nearing completion are: 'Funeral Sermons' [Leichenreden] by P. C. Groß; 'Hymnal for Evangelical Lutheran Missions', a collection of 202 hymns, some translated from our German hymnal, others selected from various other sources; Schwan's Catechism, German-English (parallel edition).
"The publication of a 'History of the United States' could unfortunately not yet be carried out, since the necessary manuscript has not yet come in to date. It is a lamentable state of affairs that a large percentage of our parish schools still do not have all our schoolbooks adopted and in use; we would therefore like to take this occasion to urge everyone earnestly to work toward having all the schoolbooks published by the Synod adopted everywhere in our parish schools; we will, through introductory and exchange prices, upon request, support all those who intend to do this. That a large sum is lost to the Synod annually through this state of affairs, everyone can easily imagine. Since our books are also sold through booksellers, it is not possible for us to learn in which schools our books are used and in which they are not, not even in the large cities. The aforementioned state of affairs is also, at the same time, an answer to the question often put to us, why the Synod's book business does not keep pace with its growth. In many cases the circumstances may be such that one has to compete with the public schools, but still much, much more could be done for our cause in this respect. One must also consider that, as instructed, we use the best materials and spare no expense to make our books as durable as possible, without raising the price. This was also acknowledged by experts at the World's Fair in St. Louis last year, and we were awarded the Grand Prize for our overall exhibit and the gold medal for typographical work.
"A request came to us from professors of our educational institutions concerning the publication of a text or textbook on national literature. But since the publication of such a work does not fall within our business scope, we referred this matter to the Reverend Faculty at St. Louis, which will provide further information on it.
