11. Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1905. 63
neugegründete Diſtrictsſynode nahm folgenden Namen an: „Der

11th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1905. 63
Likewise three visitors were elected for the three conference
districts, namely Pastors Klein, Hartmeister, and Harder. The
newly founded district synod adopted the following name: "The
Brazilian District of the German Ev. Luth. Synod of Missouri,
Ohio, and Other States." This is the fifteenth district of our synod
and the first Lutheran synodical body in South America. At its
organization it counted 14 pastors, 10 congregations, and 1
teacher. All lovers of the Lutheran Zion will surely join our
brothers in Brazil in praising God for having blessed our synod's
four years of work in Brazil with such success. The undersigned
felt compelled, on his departure, to call out to the brothers in
office and faith assembled at Rincao Sao Pedro:
" 'So the beautiful and memorable days are now over, which the
Lord allowed us to spend together. They were beautiful days; for
we were permitted to feel what the psalmist expresses in the
words: "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to
dwell together in unity," Ps. 132:1 [as printed; the verse is Ps.
133:1]. They were memorable days; for
we were permitted to take part in the founding of a synodical
district — an important work, and, as we may hope before God, a
work of blessing for the Church of the pure confession in Brazil.
For this, as for every other blessing that God has granted us in the
days now past, let God be praised and glorified!'
"In closing, your commission takes the liberty of submitting to a
Reverend Synod the following request of the Brazilian District:
'Reverend fathers and beloved brothers! Following the counsel of a
Reverend Delegate Synod, assembled in 1902 at Milwaukee, and
that of your visitor in the person of Rev. P. Lochner, the pastors
and congregations in Brazil belonging to a Reverend Synod of
Missouri, Ohio, and Other States joined together in 1904, with
God's help, into their own Brazilian District of the German
Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States.
" 'Since, however, the Brazilian District was well aware that,
given the great distance, it could not possibly represent its own
interests in North America, nor could it carry on its mission work
from the district's own resources, the constitution of a synodical
district of its own was undertaken only in the hope that a
Reverend Delegate Synod would lend a favorable ear to the
following requests, as they were formulated by the Brazilian
District immediately after the district's constitution in 1904:
