11. Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1905. 65

Hamler, O., gegen Ende vorigen Jahres anzunehmen. An ſeine

11th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1905. 65

together with Rev. Poch and his church council had appeared, the
visitation took place. The members' remarks testified to good
knowledge of Christian doctrine, keen zeal for God's kingdom, and
deep gratitude toward our synod.

"As already mentioned, we have two congregations in London,
the congregation at Kentish Town, a district in the northwest of
London, and the congregation at South Tottenham, a suburb to the
north. The members of the Kentish Town congregation live widely
scattered across the metropolis; most must travel long distances by
horse-tram or omnibus to reach the church. It is all the more
gratifying that not only are the worship services well attended, but
the adults also take part in the catechism classes by reciting the
Small Catechism and answering the questions put to them. The
school, headed by teacher Vornsand, numbers 26 children. Without
doubt the number of students would be larger were it not for the
long and, for children especially, dangerous ways.

"At the visitation meeting held, the congregation's treasurer
presented a detailed financial report. It showed that the funds sent
by the General Mission Commission had been conscientiously used
for the purpose for which they were intended; but it also showed
the congregation's great willingness to sacrifice. This congregation
counts only 21 voting and 74 communicant members, and this
small flock raised, in the past year, the sum of $1190.00 toward the
salary of its pastor and teacher and for interest. The individual
congregation members give, out of their by no means high weekly
wages, 50 cents to $2.50 week after week as a contribution to the
congregation's treasury.

"The congregation possesses a fine and suitable property. It
consists of a spacious double house, set back from the noise of the
street, with a chapel located behind it. The building offers enough
space for church and school, as well as for a pastor's and teacher's
residence, and part of the house is besides rented out. Unfortunately
a debt of $3840.00 still weighs on this property.

"Since the visitation the congregation has lost its former pastor,
Rev. Schulze, whom it loved and held in high esteem. He found
himself compelled, for good reasons, to accept a call to Hamler, O.,
toward the end of last year. In his place the congregation called
Rev. Poch, who had until then served the small congregation at
South Tottenham, and he now serves both congregations for the
time being. To the school at South Tottenham, which had until now
