38 Proceedings of the 26th General or
"In teaching circles the necessity has been recognized for years now
that the training of our teaching-office candidates at our seminary
in Addison must become more thorough than it has been up to now.
Through various petitions from individual conferences, or districts,
as well as through the findings of a special committee appointed by
the General Synod on the Addison matter — a committee that also came
before the Synod with concretely formulated proposals — we were given
hope that the Synod would remedy this long-felt need. We regret all
the more that the Reverend General Synod could not come to the
conviction that a sixth school year is necessary in Addison to raise
the level of our teaching-office candidates' training there.
"Further, we regret that the Synod could not bring itself to grant
the new buildings so necessary for our Teachers' Seminary in Addison.
"We therefore venture, in all modesty, out of love for our
institution and for our parish schools, to bring before the Synod the
urgent request that, with the resolutions here at issue touching
Addison, the matter not be regarded as finally settled, but be taken
up again for discussion as soon as possible. We venture this request
in the firm hope that a Reverend Synod, upon a further thorough
discussion of the matter, will grant both the new building and the
sixth school year for Addison."
Second Teachers' Seminary at Seward, Nebr.
"With praise and thanks to our gracious God we can report to the
Reverend Synod on three blessed years of our seminary. God has
graciously spared and preserved our institution from serious
illnesses, deaths, and other misfortunes, so that teaching and
learning could proceed without interruption.
"We can testify of our dear professors that they have faithfully
attended to their office with skill and zeal, and we likewise have no
particular cause to complain of the students.
"The third professorship, established by the Reverend Synod at its
last convention in 1902, is held in the person of Mr.
