genauen Berechnung recht knapp bemeſſen iſt. Wir hoffen jedoch, noch
während der Sitzungen unſern gedruckten Finanzbericht dem Ehrw. Prä⸗
ſidium einreichen und in der Synode verteilen zu können.

Gleich in dieſer Verbindung ſollte zu gütiger Beachtung der
Ehrw. Synode erwähnt werden, daß auch unſer Geſchäft das Schickſal
aller andern Geſchäfte teilt, daß nämlich auch bei uns die Preiſe der
Materialien und die Lohnſkala in dem letzten Jahrzehnt außer allem
Verhältnis zu den Verkaufspreiſen geſtiegen ſind, das heißt, daß auch
bei uns ſich die Produktionskoſten erheblich vermehrt haben, während wir
für die fertigen Produkte mit verſchwindend wenig Ausnahmen nicht
mehr bekommen als vor zwanzig, ja gar dreißig und mehr Jahren.
Freilich hat ſich unſer Handel recht ſchön ausgedehnt; aber wenn unſere
Abgaben an die Ehrw. Synode in Zukunft unſer gegenwärtiges Maxi⸗
mum überſteigen ſollen — und niemand wünſcht das mehr als wir —,
dann muß die Zunahme ſich aus einem vermehrten und vergrößerten
Abſatz aufbauen, da wir jetzt beim beſten Willen keine weitere Möglich⸗
keit erheblicher Erſparnis in den Herſtellungskoſten erwarten können,
eher das Gegenteil.

exact accounting is fairly tight. We hope, however, still to be able to submit our printed financial report to the Reverend Presidium during the sessions and distribute it at the Synod.

In this same connection it should kindly be brought to the Reverend Synod's attention that our business, too, shares the fate of all other businesses: namely, that with us as well the prices of materials and the wage scale have risen, over the last decade, out of all proportion to sales prices — that is, that our production costs, too, have increased considerably, while for our finished products, with vanishingly few exceptions, we receive no more than we did twenty, or even thirty and more, years ago. To be sure, our trade has expanded quite handsomely; but if our contributions to the Reverend Synod are to exceed our present maximum in the future — and no one wishes that more than we do — then that increase must be built on expanded and enlarged sales, since, with the best will in the world, we can now expect no further significant savings in production costs, but rather the opposite.
