14. Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1914. 85

3. Dieſe Kommiſſion ſoll ihren Sitz in New York City haben.

riſchen Eſtenchriſten in New York, Boſton, Philadelphia und New

14th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1914. 85

3. This Commission shall have its seat in New York City.

4. The Commission in New York City shall appoint subcommissions if it considers this necessary.

5. Since the members of the present Commission in New York City are at the same time trustees of the legally incorporated Lutheran Immigrant Society, and have also, through long years of service, become familiar with the complicated work of the Emigrant Mission and the Pilgrim House, they shall*) form the new main Commission.

6. The principal of the money saved by the late missionary Stallmann shall be transferred to the General Commission for Emigrant Mission as a permanent fund. — Should an emigrant home subsequently be established in Baltimore, this sum shall†) be used for that purpose.

7. The Commission for Emigrant Mission is authorized, with the consent of the General President, to take up the work of the Emigrant Mission in other cities as well.

c. Foreign-Language Missions at Home.

The committee concerned reported on the very detailed communications of the worthy commission, as follows:

As is evident from Petition 27, our Synod carries on mission work among the Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Poles, Persians, Finns, and Slovaks.

Estonian and Finnish Mission.

When the Reverend Synod convened three years ago in St. Louis, Pastor H. Rebane stood in the service of the Estonian Mission. He was a valiant soldier of Jesus Christ. But already in December of that same year he had to lay down his armor; he died in faith in his Savior and entered into his rest. That was a hard blow to our Estonian Mission. The mission congregations in the East now stood orphaned, until in the fall of 1912 Pastor E. Klemmer, the Finnish missionary from Bisbee, Ariz., who is a native-born Estonian, followed a call into the field. He took up the work at once and now serves the Lutheran Estonian Christians in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and New London; he also occasionally serves the Estonians in Wisconsin. At present he is the only Estonian missionary in the Synod's service. He also preaches to the Finns as often as he can. The field that he must travel is—

*) The ballot shows as its result that the members of the New York Commission whose term had expired were re-elected, and now, together with the others whose term had not yet expired, form the new General Commission.

†) The assembly substituted "shall" for the word "may" in the committee report.
