14. Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1914. 29
Meyer & Weber Piano Co. in Chicago. Von Herrn G. A. Fleiſcher
Nachfolger.

14th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1914. 29
The Lutheran Education Society of Chicago has most splendidly
improved the campus. It has, for example, laid 800 feet of gravel
paths, put down over 1200 feet of cement sidewalks, planted 120
large trees in front of the institution, and set out some 3000
smaller trees on the seminary grounds. The L. E. S. has thereby
rendered the Reverend Synod a great and commendable service. God
bless our dear brethren for their love and generosity!
The institution also received several valuable gifts which deserve
brief mention here. Thus the institution was given four new pianos:
one from the P. A. Starck Piano Co. of Chicago, one from the J. A.
J. Friedrich Music House of Grand Rapids, Mich., one from Melin &
Winkel of South Haven, Mich., and one from the Meyer & Weber Piano
Co. of Chicago. Mr. G. A. Fleischer donated various teaching
materials, busts, and the like, and the widow of the late Prof. Karl
Brauer gave several books for the library.
The General Board of Control will give the Reverend Synod a detailed
report on the new building itself. We cannot fail, on this occasion,
to mention the outstanding services these men rendered the Synod in
this construction. Not only Architect G. F. Walker of Cleveland, who
oversaw the entire building and inspected it almost every two weeks,
but also Mr. Benjamin Bosse of Evansville, gave generously of his
time and effort. Their expert counsel contributed greatly to the
work being completed so practically and so quickly.
There have also been changes on the board of control since the last
synodical convention. By accepting the directorship, Präses W. C.
Kohn resigned from it, and Präses Fr. Brunn became his successor.
After the institution's move to River Forest, Messrs. C. H.
Zuttermeister and G. A. Fleischer joined the board of control.
Messrs. L. Blecke and L. Leeseberg, members from the Addison
congregations, wished to withdraw. But since the institution at
Addison is still synodical property, and someone must be there to
oversee it, these brethren, at the board's request, agreed to serve
until the next Synod as "extra members of the board of control for
Addison."
Since the River Forest board of control cannot also continue to
manage the buildings at Addison, the Synod itself should determine
who is to take over the management of the property at Addison.
A Memorial from the Faculty of the Teachers' Seminary at River
Forest, Ill.
The demands placed on our teachers' seminary with regard to teacher
training are today considerably higher than twenty years ago. But
the demands of our congregations regarding the training of future
organists have likewise steadily grown. Our country today stands, as
regards music, on a far higher level than fifty
