32 Verhandlungen der 29. Allgemeinen oder
Aushelfer gibt 27 Piano⸗ und Orgelſtunden und Prof. Käppel 33 Muſik⸗
lektionen.

32 Proceedings of the 29th General or
The helper gives 27 piano and organ lessons, and Prof. Käppel 33
music lesson periods.
In addition to the 100 lesson periods mentioned, there are eight
more lesson periods in other subjects that other professors have
taken off the helper's hands, so that he might be entirely free for
music. But this too cannot continue in the long run, since the
professors concerned would otherwise be overburdened.
We absolutely need help if our institution is to accomplish anything
worthwhile in music, and we confidently hope that the Reverend Synod
will recognize this and grant the assistance requested.
In the name and on behalf of the faculty,
W. C. Kohn, Director.
The board of control would like to earnestly ask the Reverend Synod
to seriously consider the memorial from the River Forest faculty and
to grant the request made in it for further assistant teachers.
Finally, on the advice of attorney Mr. Gustavus Tatge, the board of
control recommends to the Reverend Synod that a new charter be
issued for the new institution at River Forest.
Proceedings and Resolutions.
Already on the first day of the sessions, Präses Pfotenhauer had
brought the assembly the welcome news that the district treasurers
had $42,000 in hand, collected to cover the fire damage. With the
addition of an insurance payment that has been paid out, the
expenses for rebuilding the burned-down building are thus already
fully covered again.
In the course of the days, however, it was also repeatedly pointed
out that provision still had to be made for the entire furnishing of
the building as well as for the teaching materials, which also
burned. In addition, there is still a debt of $70,000 in the general
building fund. Congregations that have not yet taken up their own
collections to make good the fire damage are therefore asked to
please still do so.
All the new buildings of the institution, including the music
building, cost $217,673.14. To this must be added the cost of the
professors' residences, amounting to $54,449.30, as well as extra
expenses of $2862.80. Total expenditures, then: $274,985.24. Although
one of the buildings was paid for entirely by a small number of
wealthy and generous Lutherans, and for another of the buildings
many schoolchildren made a special collection, there nevertheless
remains a debt of $70,000, as already stated above.
Resolved, that the interior furnishings as well, including
the professors' library and the physics apparatus, insofar as these
cannot be procured from special gifts, shall be replaced from the
funds coming in to cover the fire damage.
