2. Andere Miſſionen.

A. Im Inland.

2. Other Missions.

A. At Home.

a. Negro Mission.

Our Synod carries on the Negro Mission jointly with the other synods belonging to the Synodical Conference. Oversight of the mission and election of the necessary commission is a matter for the Synodical Conference, which assembles through delegates every two years.

Rev. N. J. Bakke is director of this mission. He was present at the synodical convention and served it with a brief address on the present state of the Negro Mission. For this address the Synod thanked the mission director and also resolved that we wish to encourage our congregations toward ever more generous giving for the Negro Mission.

b. Indian Mission.

The committee, to which all documents relating to this mission had been submitted, presented the following report:

The committee appointed by the Reverend General Presidium to examine the petitions and reports concerning the Indian Mission has complied with its charge. Along with other documents, a report was before us from the members of the commission who resigned a year ago, and a petition from the present commission. We have carefully examined and earnestly weighed these documents: the petition of the present Indian Mission Commission, the report with its justifications from the members who resigned from the commission, as well as other documents available to us. It would indeed be our greatest joy if we could present a Reverend Synod with a gratifying judgment on the Indian Mission. But we are not in a position to do so. The circumstances are such that it is simply impossible for us, from the documents and reports available to us, to form a final judgment that would satisfy the Synod and present it to the Synod. We have therefore come to the conviction that the greatest service is done to the missionary among the Indians, and thus to the Indians themselves, if the Reverend Synod appoints a committee that examines everything on the spot, and that this
