34 Proceedings of the 29th General or

taken place, and since the buyers themselves wished it, the deeds of
transfer now to be signed by the synodical officers in the Synod's
name were expressly read aloud before the delegate assembly and
confirmed by a separate resolution.

The wish expressed by the Synod in 1911, that the buildings not be
sold to a community of a different faith, has been honored. The
institution's buildings, together with the professors' residences
grouped around them, have been sold to the Lutheran Children's Friend
Society of Illinois, and the professor's residence in the village of
Addison to a fellow believer living there.

Teachers' Seminary, Seward, Nebr.

The following report from the worthy board of control was before the
Synod:

As we prepare to render to the Reverend Synod the report owed for
the past triennium of its Teachers' Seminary at Seward, we must
confess with hearts full of thanks: "It is of the Lord's mercies
that we are not consumed." On May 14 of last year, the city of
Seward was struck by a tornado which reduced everything in its path
to rubble and brought death and destruction, and had it held to its
original path, without doubt four professors' residences and all the
institution's buildings would have been destroyed, and — who can
say — how many precious human lives would have been lost. But we
praise it as a miracle of our God's goodness that the storm veered
away a few steps short of the institution's boundary; the professors
and students remained unharmed, as did the buildings, with the
exception of the residence hall, whose roof was torn off and hurled
to the ground over the heads of the terrified, fleeing students. The
property damage caused, amounting to $1275.00, was covered from the
storm fund, so that the Reverend Synod incurred no expense. Yes, it
is the goodness of Him who gives the clouds, the air, and the winds
their paths, course, and way, that we are not consumed.

Otherwise, the inmates of our institution were granted a quiet and
peaceful life, and, we may add, one lived in all godliness and
honesty. No deaths occurred during the past triennium. The
institution has also been graciously preserved from serious,
contagious illnesses.

Of the students, with few exceptions, it can be said to their credit
that they submit well to the institution's discipline, and not
merely for fear of punishment but also for conscience' sake. We do
not wish to conceal, however, that some serious offenses also
occurred, resulting in the expulsion of those responsible. These
were students in their first year at the institution.
