Schlafſälen Bett an Bett gedrängt.

50 Proceedings of the 29th General or

their studies. Now bed is crowded against bed in the small and large
dormitories. Some pupils had to use the attic room in the director's
residence as a bedroom.

That is a brief glimpse of the shortage that compels us to come before
the Synod with a request for a school building and for the provision of
more living rooms and dormitories.

We ask for a school building that is truly of fireproof construction
and provides classroom space for 250 pupils. In our judgment it should
contain: an auditorium, seven ordinary classrooms, a classroom for
natural science, a laboratory for chemistry, a museum, a conference and
library room for the faculty, a library and reading room for the
pupils, the necessary wash-rooms and privies, and cloakrooms. (See
under "Petitions of the Minnesota District," Section II.)

In the judgment of experts, the cost of such a school building and of
the alterations needed to provide living rooms and dormitories would
come to about $100,000.

Resolution.

Resolved, to grant the sum of $30,000 for a new school building, with
the understanding that the brethren in the Northwest (North and South
Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa) raise a further $30,000 through a special
collection, so that the whole building sum comes to $60,000. However,
the said brethren are not to be released from their obligation to the
General Building Fund by their special collection.

St. Paul's Gymnasium at Concordia, Mo.

Concerning this institution, the honorable board of control reported
the following:

The past triennium was, for our institution, one richly blessed by
God. God has held his hand over teachers and pupils, so that the
teachers could attend to their office with love and faithfulness, and
the pupils, in good health, could apply themselves to their studies
with diligence and faithfulness. Enrollment has increased with every
school year, so that this year we record the highest attendance yet,
namely 173 pupils.

The improvements granted by the last Synod have been carried out for
the sums set aside for them, and the purchase of a professor's
residence approved by the General Synod has likewise been completed.

After our school building, erected in 1906, had stood for four years,
some cracks appeared in the entrance hall and in the east wall.
Suspecting nothing amiss, no particular attention was at first given to
this. But the cracks widened and gave cause for serious concern. We
