14. Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1914. 73
mäßigen Gaben bedenken mögen;
2. daß die Allgemeine Miſſionskommiſſion mit den Diſtrikts⸗
kommiſſionen in nähere Verbindung trete;

14th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1914. 73
[continued from the previous page] ...surpluses sent in by other districts were distributed and assigned to those districts that could not carry on the mission work in their midst by themselves. Unfortunately, a distribution was often not possible, since there was no money in the treasury. Although we repeatedly turned to individual district commissions for help, and also on various occasions set out the need in the treasury in the *Lutheraner* [the Synod's German-language church paper], the requested help nevertheless often had to be refused. — In the last three years $55,383 was distributed, namely:
To the California and Nevada District .............. $5,900.00
To the North Dakota and Montana District ........... 7,100.00
To the Minnesota District, for mission in Canada and
British Columbia .................................. 3,966.00
To the Oregon and Washington District ............... 11,934.00
To the Canada District ................................ 925.00
To the Southern District ............................ 11,739.00
To the Texas District ................................. 8,900.00
To the Emigrant Mission in Baltimore .................. 740.00
To the mission on Cuba, existing since October 1911 and
conducted under the direction of a commission of the
Southern District .................................. 4,179.00
$107,188 was requested from the Commission, while only $55,383 — that is, only half — could be paid out.
As we are informed by the various district commissions, the mission work consequently often suffered great hardship, since the missionaries engaged in this difficult labor could not be paid punctually and no new mission stations could be undertaken. Unfortunately, many districts have contributed nothing at all to our treasury, although the Synod urgently recommended this at its last convention. We ask the Reverend Synod, this year as well, to earnestly deliberate once more on the cause of General Inner Mission in North America and to devise means and ways of relieving the need in our treasury.
The Lord our God, who above all called us to this work, hear our prayers and bless our work for the sake of his promise!
The committee report read as follows:
Since the work of Inner Mission is the chief work of our Synod, and since, further, important mission districts of our Synod have already curtailed their mission work, and others will have to curtail it in the future unless they receive greater assistance than before from the General Mission Treasury, we recommend that the Reverend Synod resolve:
1. that all districts, or congregations, regard the General Mission Treasury — whose funding the surpluses from the district treasuries fall far short of covering — as a principal treasury, and remember it with regular gifts;
2. that the General Mission Commission enter into closer contact with the district commissions;
