waren.

44 Proceedings of the 29th General or

has already been standing for fifty years, one can imagine that the
beams have decayed from dampness, the wood siding is dilapidated,
and the floors have settled. The walls are, as far as we can judge,
still sound. If the whole interior were torn out and an addition
built on, the building could possibly meet requirements, but it
would still amount to patchwork. In our conviction, new
construction would, in the long run, be better and cheaper. Either
course, however, should be undertaken fairly soon.

II. The General Board of Control agreed with us that it was
absolutely necessary to lay the floor of the dining hall four feet
higher than the floor of the service building, first, to prevent the
basement windows from ending up below ground level, and second, to
give the basement of the new dining hall the necessary height.

It was also clear to the General Board of Control and to us that the
service building would in any case soon have to be either entirely
rebuilt or replaced by a new building. Meals must now be brought
from the kitchen, which is four feet lower, up to the dining hall by
means of a hand elevator. This is certainly a great inconvenience
and cannot continue indefinitely. We therefore ask the Reverend
Synod either to erect a new service building or to resolve to raise
the floors of the first and second stories of the service building —
and, of course, therefore also to raise the roof and build up the
wall to the elevated roof.

13. We consider it our duty to explain, with a few remarks, why the
current expenses for our institution were so large. By order of the
city authorities, Schick Street has been paved with asphalt, which
cost $1997.84. The two streets bordering the college property on the
north and south, namely Washington Street and Maumee Avenue, were
likewise paved. In addition, a cement sidewalk has been laid along
Washington Street from Schick Street to Walton Avenue, a stretch of
nearly 1200 feet.

14. Finally, we call the Reverend Synod's attention to the fact
that, God willing, we intend to celebrate the 75th anniversary
jubilee of Concordia College at Fort Wayne at the end of June, and
we cordially invite our dear fellow believers, near and far, to this
celebration. May the Chief Shepherd of the Church warm all our
hearts and open our hands, that we may diligently pray, work, and
give for our educational institutions!

Resolutions.

Resolved, that it be approved that the General Board of
Control, together with the local board of control, has erected the
new dining hall.

Lengthy discussions concerning the right of ownership and disposal
regarding the College Farm finally led to the following resolution:
