14. Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1914. 23

fremden.

nun vakant gewordenen Profeſſur Herrn Prof. Th. Gräbner zum Nach⸗
folger erhielt.

14th Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1914. 23

Our Educational Institutions.

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo.

The following report of the worthy board of control of the
seminary at St. Louis, Mo., was before the Reverend Synod:

Since our last report three more years have passed, and we can say
that they were richly blessed years. Although painful and
distressing experiences have not been lacking, we nevertheless have
good cause to praise God's grace, which has granted such great
success to the work of our institution and has comforted us again
even in affliction.

The number of students has steadily increased. The statistics are
as follows: 1911/12: enrolled 310, vicars 25, candidates 87;
1912/13: enrolled 319, vicars 30, candidates 85; 1913/14: enrolled
331, vicars 42, candidates 97. — In general we can say that our
students have studied diligently and have also shown themselves to
be Christian young men in their conduct. That exceptions have
occurred will surprise no one. Rather, we must thank God that, given
the large number of students, there have not been more exceptions.
The state of health was also quite good. Only one student died, and
that not at the institution but in his parents' home.

The faculty was increased by one member in accordance with the
Synod's resolution, in that Prof. E. Pardieck accepted the call
extended to him as editor and professor to assist in the English
work. We are also glad to report that Dr. F. Pieper, through God's
help, has gradually been fully restored to health and has resumed
his former work at the seminary. The lectures on pastoral theology
have remained in the hands of Prof. Mezger; however, Dr. Pieper
extended his instruction in dogmatics to the third class as well
this past year. — On January 9 of last year a heavy blow struck us.
Dr. G. Stöckhardt was called on that day, by God's unsearchable
counsel, through a sudden but surely blessed death to his eternal
rest. He had served the seminary for thirty-three years, from 1887
as a regular professor, with the rich treasure of his theological
knowledge. His place was filled, through a regular call, by Prof. E.
Pardieck, whose now-vacant professorship, at the start of the last
school year, received as its successor Prof. Th. Gräbner. Thus, by
God's grace, all the teaching positions are again well filled. We
can also, thank God, give our professors the testimony that they
work together in complete unity of spirit and discharge their office
with all faithfulness.

As to the buildings, it must be reported that, practicing the
strictest economy, we have used only the
