Zehnten Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1902. 83

Tenth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1902. 83
4. Resolved, that the petition of the Southeast Missouri Pastoral
Conference concerning the "language question" be tabled until the next
Delegate Synod.
5. Resolved, that the Synod recommend to the congregations that they
consider the matter set forth in the said petition in their meetings over
the course of the next three years, using the petition as a guide.
6. Resolved, that the petition of the Southeast Missouri Pastoral
Conference (together with this resolution and the two preceding
resolutions concerning the petition — the 4th and 5th resolutions) be sent
in printed form to every congregation of our Synod for consideration of
the petition's contents.
Foreign, or Heathen, Missions.
"When your Committee gave its report in 1899, the proclamation of the
Gospel by our missionaries in India had as yet no visible success to
show, but trusting in the promise that God's Word shall not return
empty, the Synod and our missionaries confidently continued the work.
With heartfelt thanks to God, however, it can now be reported that in
the course of the past three years a beginning has been made toward
the formation of a congregation at three of our four stations. Missionary
Näther in Krishnagiri in 1900, after very careful instruction, received
two already Christian teachers into the orthodox Church and, through
them and their families, gained a small congregation of 8 souls.
Missionary Mohn in Ambur, in the same year, baptized a heathen youth
who had studied in his school and had been employed by him as a
teacher. In the course of time three others followed him, and recently
eleven heathen there received holy baptism, so that 15 souls now stand
under Missionary Mohn's pastoral care. A catechumen who fell ill with
the plague during instruction received emergency baptism and died
soon after. In Vaniyambadi, Missionary Freche, after a very bitter
disappointment at the hands of a young Brahmin, has in the course of
last year and this year repeatedly had the joy of being able to baptize
heathen, and his congregation now numbers 22 souls. We thus count 45
native Christians in our mission; and in both Ambur and Vaniyambadi
several more have again presented themselves for baptism and are under
instruction. For this beginning, still small but very gratifying, we thank
God from our hearts. May He watch over the little flock together with
our missionaries and grant blessing and increase to our further work.
"But while our missionaries are intent on preaching the Gospel to all
they can reach, they also cultivate the school alongside it with great
zeal; and here too gratifying progress has [been made]
