Tenth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1902. 123
"May the Lord of the Church continue to prosper the work of the
Synod among us in the future, to the honor of His name." (Report of the
Revision Committee, 1899 to 1902.)
1. Resolved, that no longer, as heretofore, shall all members of the
Board of Directors be elected at once, but instead only three, respectively
four, at a time — that is, now three, namely the three who received the
smaller number of votes, for three years, and the other four for six years,
so that thereafter the term of office of every member of the Board will
always be six years.
2. Resolved, that the hiring and salarying, that is, the setting of pay,
of the General Agent be left henceforth to the Board of Directors — with
the General President's participation.
3. Resolved, that the General Treasurer be instructed to issue receipts
in duplicate for all moneys received — in accordance with the
recommendation of the Revision Committee.
4. Resolved, that all "notes" be signed not only by the General
Treasurer but also by the General President.
5. Resolved, that the General Treasurer henceforth no longer keep
larger sums of money in a rented safe, but deposit them in a bank.
6. Resolved, that the sum which the supervisory boards are permitted
to draw from the Synodical treasury for necessary repairs to institutional
buildings be raised to $1000.00 for all full-course institutions, while for
all other institutions it shall remain at the sum of $500.00.
7. Resolved, that the Synod cordially — but at the same time
urgently — ask Prof. F. Pieper to continue publishing his dogmatics.
8. Resolved, that the Synod approves that the "Concordia Magazine"
has been transformed into the "Young Lutherans' Magazine."
9. Resolved, that the petition concerning the revision and enlargement
of our church Agenda [liturgical service book], as well as its translation
into the English language and the publication of an English hymnal, be
placed in the hands of the faculty of the theological seminary at St. Louis,
with the charge that it deliberate on the matter, supply whatever may be
lacking in the Agenda, and report to the next Delegate Synod, submitting
to it, if appropriate, a possible draft of the Agenda or hymnal for
resolution.
10. Resolved — occasioned by a petition concerning the publication of
a commentary, sound in doctrine throughout and reliable, on the whole
of Holy Scripture — that Prof. Stöckhardt be encouraged to continue
vigorously with the work he has begun, publishing his exposition of the
biblical books, and that at the same time the other members of the
St. Louis faculty be called upon to take part in this work,
