Tenth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1902. 101

so far not self-supporting, and their continued publication will depend
on whether the Reverend Synod takes them over or not. We therefore ask
the Reverend Synod to deliberate and resolve on whether this cannot be
done.

"But thanks be to God for all the blessing that he has, through the
service of our dear Synod, granted to this people, who stand with us in
one faith even though not related to us in language." (Report of the
Commission for the Mission to the Estonians and Latvians.)

1. Resolved, that the Synod approves the calling, carried out by the
commission, of a second missionary for the mission to the Estonians and
Latvians.

2. Resolved, that the territory be divided so that P. H. Rebane serves
the eastern part of the country up to the western border of Indiana,
including Chicago, and P. J. Sillak the western part.

3. Resolved, that P. J. Sillak be placed under the German mission
commission of the Minnesota and Dakota District.

4. Resolved, that the Synod contribute $300.00 annually toward salary,
plus travel expenses for services in the mission to the Latvians and
Estonians, in addition to what P. Sillak receives from the German
mission.

5. Resolved, that while the Synod declines the request to take over
the two papers — "Amerikas Weſtneſis" and "Amerika Eesti Postimees" — as
its own, since it can exercise no control over their content, it
authorizes the commission to contribute such a sum toward the continued
existence of the two named papers as is necessary.

6. Resolved, that the Synod cordially asks the congregations to
support the mission to the Estonians and Latvians more generously in the
future than has been done so far.

7. Resolved, that the Synod accepts the commission's treasury report
as well examined and found correct. — It reads (in extract) as follows:

Total income (from 1899 to 1902) ............... $1448.98

Salary to P. Rebane .......................... $1371.47
Sent to P. Bünger .............................. 50.00
                                             —— 1421.47

Mission to the American Indians.

"After the Reverend Synod, at its last Delegate Synod, had resolved to
take in hand the mission to the Indians begun by Mr. Pastor Nickel and
to call a missionary of its own for it, the commission elected by the
Synod called Mr. Candidate D. Larsen of
