...and salvation. He remains unseduced by Turks, Jews, Buddhists, papists,
Unitarians, and lodges, and by all false religions.

So we have seen why it is so important, under all circumstances and against
all error, to hold fast that Christianity consists in faith in Christ the
Crucified. For only in this way can we human beings be made 1. blessed,
2. certain of God's grace, 3. diligent in good works, and 4. spiritually
discerning. May God, out of grace, for Christ's sake, keep us in the truth
of the gospel!

"We begin our report on the triennium now past" (a period of three years)
"with the words of Lamentations 3:22-23: 'It is the LORD's goodness that we
are not utterly consumed; his compassion has no end, but it is new every
morning, and great is thy faithfulness.' For we are able to report to the
Reverend Synod that our institution has remained, in these three years, and
still is today, what it was from the beginning of its existence: an
institution in which Christian young men are instructed in the pure, sound
doctrine of our Evangelical Lutheran Church and trained into capable
laborers in the Lord's vineyard. With great faithfulness and conscientiousness,
and with untiring diligence, the professors, each in his own part, have set
forth and impressed upon their students not their own wisdom but the
doctrine of God's revealed word. And these students have, on the whole,
also shown that they loved God's word and were well aware of the high
calling for which they were preparing themselves. That the spirit of faith
and the fear of God governs our institution, the Reverend Synod may
recognize from this alone: that among so large a number of young men, who,
like others, have not only flesh and blood but are also exposed to many
temptations, no serious excesses have occurred, and that discipline gave no
particular trouble, since the students, as should be the case among
Christians, watched over one another and took care that the good name of
the institution was preserved.

"310 students have attended the institution in the three years. In the
school year from 1899 to 1900 the number of students was 193; from 1900 to
1901, on the other hand, 194; and in the year just past it came to 183. In
1900, 57 passed the theological examination; in 1901, 62; while this year
the number of candidates is 54. Certainly
