Zehnten Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1902. 113
liturgien. Durch Kauf ſind in unſeren Verlag übergegangen: Heßhuſius'
‚Evangelien⸗Poſtille‘, ‚Zehn Predigten von der Rechtfertigung‘ und ‚Fünf⸗
zehn Paſſionspredigten‘. Für die von der Ehrw. Synode ſchon vor Jah⸗
ren angeordnete Herausgabe einer ‘History of the United States’ für
‘Sermons on the Gospels of the Ecclesiastical Year’, in Druck und

1902, and covers a period of two years and ten months, which also
accounts for the difference between the sum of moneys turned over to him
as stated in the report of the Synod's General Treasurer and the sum listed
in the General Agent's report.
"Since work in the office is especially heavy right around the time
when we must close the books and take inventory, the General Agent felt
compelled, both this year and last, to ask the worthy Synod members in
the *Lutheraner* [the Synod's German-language paper] for their kind
indulgence when receipts were not issued as promptly as was wished and
customary, and it became quite clear that February 1 is exactly the most
inconvenient time of year for us to close the books and take inventory.
"Besides the various periodicals and devotional and school books, the
following new works were produced: three further volumes of *Luther's
Works*, volumes XV, XVI, and XVII; Corvinus's *Commentary on the
Gospels*; Starck's *Daily Handbook*; Gössweins's *Revelation of St.
John*; *Outlines for Catechesis* by Prof. G. Mezger; *What Do the Words
Say?* by Prof. F. Lindemann; *Bible Knowledge* by Prof. J. Schaller;
'Language Lessons,' Part III; a new series of English arithmetic books,
'Standard American Arithmetic,' Books 1 to 5; along with a number of
tracts on lodges and secret societies, as well as individual sermons and
Christmas liturgies. By purchase the following have passed into our
publishing house: Heshusius's *Postil on the Gospels*, *Ten Sermons on
Justification*, and *Fifteen Passion Sermons*. For the *History of the
United States* for our schools, whose publication the Reverend Synod
ordered some years ago, an editor has now been found, since the
manuscript for the one earlier planned was withdrawn by its author.
"Of the new series of English Readers, the 'Primer Charts' and the
'First Reader' are so far in progress, and we hope to be able to present
samples of them to the Synod. As the saying goes here too: good things
come to those who wait, and we would like to draw the Reverend Synod's
attention to them already now.
"Since more and more inquiries kept coming in for English devotional
and sermon books, especially for Dr. Walther's *Postil on the Gospels* in
English, the Board of Directors, in agreement with the theological
faculty in St. Louis, resolved to take on the printing and publication of a
manuscript kindly placed at our disposal by Mr. P. H. Sieck of
Milwaukee, entitled 'Sermons on the Gospels of the Ecclesiastical Year,'
and the first volume of it, covering sermons from the first Sunday in
Advent to the Monday after Pentecost, has so far appeared.
"Further, we take the liberty of reporting that over the course of recent
years it became ever clearer that the need for an English
