102 Verhandlungen der 24ſten Allgemeinen oder

Synode anheim, zu beſtimmen, was in dieſer Sache

Februar

102 Proceedings of the 24th General, or

"1. The Synod is asked to determine that the Board of Directors of
the Concordia Publishing House be officially informed of the Synod's
resolutions concerning it immediately after the close of each session,
so that carrying them out does not depend on the appearance of the
Synodical Report.

"2. The Synod is asked to charge its Secretary with notifying each
member of the Board of Directors of his election in writing.

"3. The Synod is asked, by suitable resolution, to put an end to
the confusion in the spelling of our German school books.

"4. The Synod is asked to determine that henceforth the synodical
contribution be collected no longer by the Concordia Publishing House,
but by the treasurers of the individual districts. We find ourselves
unable to attend to the collecting.

"5. Since the number of readers of our ‚Schulblatt' [School Paper]
is decreasing from year to year, we submit to the Reverend Synod
whether something can and should be done to put the paper back on a
paying basis.

"6. Since inquiries have already come in from many quarters asking
whether we would not publish special books and writings for Sunday
schools, we leave it to the Reverend Synod to decide what should be
done in this matter. The same applies to a request to publish a weekly
paper called ‚Der lutheriſche Hülfsprediger' [The Lutheran Assistant
Preacher].

"7. Finally we submit to the Synod whether it is not time to let
the ‚Lutheraner' appear in a new format, that is, somewhat smaller, but
with 16 pages instead of the present 8. Because of the many receipts,
conference notices, and other announcements, we are frequently obliged
to add a 2- to 4-page supplement to the ‚Lutheraner' in its present
format. This makes a great deal of extra work and causes large costs,
which would fall away under the proposed format, and whatever space is
left over can always be filled with good reading matter. With the
approval of the editorial staff, we take the liberty of laying a
sample issue of the new format before the Reverend Synod." (Report of
the Board of Directors.)

"The Auditing Commission for the Printing House, Agency, and
Treasury, appointed by the General Synod in 1896, has annually audited,
according to instruction, both the books and accounts of the Concordia
Publishing House and those of the General Treasurer, and now takes the
liberty of reporting on this to the Reverend Synod.

"As regards first the books and accounts of the General
Treasurer, we have satisfied ourselves through a thorough audit of
their conscientious and businesslike management, and have likewise
made certain each time that the cash on hand — on February 1
