Neunten Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1899. 87

Unſer Guthaben in der Bank war

    in 1896 ......................................................................... $5138.20
    Noten ............................................................................. 377.72

                                                                      Total $5515.92

Gegenwärtiger Vermögensbeſtand (13. Jan. 1899):

Baarbeſtand in der Bank .......................................... $4663.66
    Noten ............................................................................. 346.22

                                                                      Total $5009.88,

B. in

Ninth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1899. 87

Our balance in the bank was

    in 1896 ......................................................................... $5138.20
    Notes ............................................................................. 377.72

                                                                      Total $5515.92

Present state of assets (January 13, 1899):

Cash balance in the bank .......................................... $4663.66
    Notes ............................................................................. 346.22

                                                                      Total $5009.88,

which shows a decrease in assets of $506.04.
Collections received from our congregations during this period came to
$243.00.

"We are convinced that, despite this unfavorable financial situation, this
mission should not be curtailed but should be allowed to continue in its
full scope — indeed should be supported more vigorously, chiefly by having
people make use of our agent when arranging railroad tickets. It happens
often that tickets are bought elsewhere, and our agent must then, on the
spot, do all the work afterward, while others have pocketed the profit."
(Report of the Emigrant Mission Commission at Baltimore.)

Resolved, that the Emigrant Mission at Baltimore be carried on further in
the future as it has been.

Resolved, that the Synod earnestly asks all congregations to support the
Emigrant Mission at Baltimore more vigorously in the future, by sending in
collections, than has been done up to now.

Resolved, that the Synod expresses the urgent wish that, in procuring
steamship tickets and railroad tickets, people make use of the Emigrant
Mission's agent, so that the profit flows not into the pockets of outside
agents but into the mission's treasury.

Resolved, that the Synod recommends the printing of a tract in the Slovak
and Polish languages for free distribution among immigrants of those
nationalities, both in Baltimore and in New York.

Jewish Mission.

"Since the last meeting of our Synod, the work of the Jewish mission has
continued to make blessed progress. To be sure, we cannot point in this
mission to such eye-catching successes as, for example, in Home Missions,
but we know that here, too, God's Word does not remain without fruit, and
that here, too, the Lord God turns many a rocky field into good ground. God
has granted us one soul who is now a faithful Christian in one of our
congregations; others give every hope that they too will one day openly
confess Jesus Christ.
