Neunten Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1899. 43

Ninth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1899. 43

"No deaths or serious illnesses have had to be lamented within the
institution. The professors have administered their responsible and
labor-heavy office in harmony of faith and love, with their accustomed and
proven faithfulness and self-denial.

"The enrollment of the past three years yields the following figures:
in 1896-1897 there were 195 seminarians enrolled, in 1897-1898, 169, in
1898-1899, 156. In the course of the triennium 86 candidates passed their
examination for taking up the holy preaching office. For provisional
assistance in preaching and teaching positions, 171 students had been
granted [leave to serve] as of March 8 of the current year. It is almost
impossible to meet every request.

"Among the students are 7 Black students [*Neger*], 1 Pole, 1 Latvian,
and 3 Slovaks, who are preparing themselves for service in the
corresponding missions.

"The seminarians have on average devoted themselves to their studies
with conscientious diligence and have led a serious Christian life. God
has in his grace kept the institution free of serious scandals.

"The five resolutions adopted in the interest of the institution by the
last Reverend Synod have proven wise and blessed.

"As to the buildings, the board has no requests to make of the
Reverend Synod. The expenses for only the most necessary repairs amounted
to $1214.86; of this figure, however, $500.00 must be subtracted, which
had been granted by Synod resolution for fencing in the still-open
seminary land.

"Now may the Lord our God continue to dwell and walk among us, to the
welfare of his church and the great honor of his glorious name!"
(Report of the board at Springfield, Ill.)

Resolved, that the three legacies held in the General Treasury which
have been bequeathed to the Springfield seminary, together with their
proceeds, if any, shall be handed over to the board at Springfield, Ill.,
for administration — for the purpose of profitable investment for the
benefit of that institution.

Teachers' Seminary at Addison, Ill.

"Since God, in the past three years, has again held his protective hand
over our seminary and has let us so richly share in so many proofs of his
blessing and his help, this is surely reason enough that we begin our
report with praise and thanks toward God, the giver of all good gifts.

"What we now first have to report to the Reverend Synod is contained in
a letter from the honored faculty [*Lehrercollegium*, the teaching
faculty]. It reads: 'With heartfelt thanks toward God the faculty would
like to note two benefits that have come to our institution since the last
Delegate Synod...
