Neunten Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1899. 45

Will's Gott, ſo
ſollen in dieſem Jahr 43 Candidaten ins Schulamt treten.

„c. Die Anſtalt verließen, theils wegen Krankheit, theils wegen Unluſt
oder Unfähigkeit, im Jahre 1896—1897 9 Schüler; 1897—1898 5 Schü⸗
ler, 1898—1899 5 Schüler.

„d. Entlaſſen wurden in obigem Zeitraum 4 Schüler.

„Was das Ehrw.

September 1897 in ſein
Amt durch Herrn Paſtor Reinke sen. eingeführt. Die Einführungsrede
hielt Herr Paſtor Engelbrecht sen. über 2 Chron. 15, 7.

Ninth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1899. 45

"'Our request is this: that the Reverend Synod erect, on the seminary
grounds, a building intended for the purposes of the seminary's practice
school, as soon as the board and faculty have come to the conclusion that
it can no longer be done without one. The cost of such a building would
come to about $2000.00.'

"Regarding the conduct and behavior of the students, the professors
say: 'The faculty can testify of the students of the institution, on the
whole, that they let themselves be guided by and with the Word of God.'

"The number of students has been as follows:

"a. In the school year 1896-1897 the total number of students was 194,
namely 90 seminary students [*Seminariſten*] and 104 preparatory students
[*Präparanden*]. In the school year 1897-1898 there were 185 students in
the institution, of whom 106 were seminary students and 79 preparatory
students. In the school year 1898-1899 the number of students was 184,
namely 103 seminary students and 81 preparatory students.

"b. In 1897, 42 candidates entered the teaching office. Of these, 14
had, at the time of assignment, remained without calls; but they received
them before three months had passed. In 1898, 45 seminary students passed
their examination, and all received calls except two, who were only put
forward for provisional appointment. God willing, 43 candidates are to
enter the teaching office this year.

"c. The institution was left, partly on account of illness, partly on
account of reluctance or incapacity, by 9 students in 1896-1897; 5
students in 1897-1898; 5 students in 1898-1899.

"d. 4 students were dismissed in the above period.

"As for the Reverend faculty, we testify with joy that all the
professors administer their difficult and laborious office with complete
faithfulness. God has kept all of them in good health. It is true that
Prof. Lindemann was struck by a serious illness in the past year, shortly
before the vacation; but through God's help he was able, to our joy, to
resume his work with his accustomed zeal at the start of the new school
year and to continue it without interruption.

"In June 1897, Prof. K. Brauer sent the board his request for
dismissal. He asked, on account of increasing infirmity of age, that his
resignation be accepted. We have granted his request. We have provided him
an annual pension of $600.00, until a Reverend Synod settles this matter
itself. For over thirty years Prof. Brauer served the Synod as professor
with complete faithfulness.

"In place of Prof. K. Brauer, Mr. A. Käppel, teacher, until then a
teacher at the Dreieinigkeits-Gemeinde [Trinity congregation] in St.
Louis, was elected by the Reverend electoral college. He was installed in
his office on September 20, 1897 by Pastor Reinke Sr. The installation
address was given by Pastor Engelbrecht Sr. on 2 Chron. 15:7.
