lichen Diſtrict in ihren Verband aufgenommen worden ſei.

willigung.

74 Proceedings of the 24th General, or

Synod and made its own. This resolution is found on page 29 of the
Synodical Handbook and reads there as follows: "Congregations whose
preacher belongs to another synod cannot be received." That the
congregation in question here had been gathered, organized, and
served for a considerable time by our Synod — hence precisely its
request for reception into our synodical body — did not change the
matter. This latter point was generally conceded, and the Synod
considered it its duty to adopt the following resolution regarding it:

Resolved, that the Synod hereby declares it was not its intention
that the congregation of Pastor W. Sachs be received into its body by
the Western District.

After this resolution had been adopted, Professor Gräbner, who as
secretary of the Commission for the English Mission had drawn up the
foregoing report of that Commission, took the floor and set forth, in
clear, plain words understandable to everyone, the position our Synod
has taken for forty years on the language question and has asserted in
its ordinances and public declarations. Following these remarks, the
matter was then provisionally settled by the following resolutions:

Resolved, that a delegation of three members be elected to attend
the synodical convention of the English Lutheran Missouri Synod and
confer with the members of that synod on how the shared interests of
both synodical bodies for the kingdom of God can best be furthered
with respect to the language question.

Resolved, that this delegation, consisting of Professor F. Pieper
and the district presidents Pastor P. Brand and Pastor G. Spiegel, shall
be obligated to report to the next General Synod at its sessions in the
year 1902.

Resolved, that the sum of $400.00 annually continue to be granted
from the Synodical fund to Concordia College at Conover, N. C.

Note: Pastor F. Kügele, president of the English Lutheran
Missouri Synod, to which that college belongs, thanked the Synod in
heartfelt words for this grant, renewed once again.
