Neunten Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1899. 141
ben wird;
3. daß die Synode dieſe Beſchlüſſe durch Aufſtehen indoſſire;
So ſegne

Ninth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1899. 141
history of our Synod and will remain among us as a blessing;
3. that the Synod endorse these resolutions by rising;
4. that our former, long and faithfully serving, right reverend
General President, Dr. H. C. Schwan, be granted an honorary pension of
$1000.00 per year.
With deeply moved heart, toward the close of the Synod, the former
General President, Dr. H. C. Schwan, addressed a few heartfelt words of
farewell to the Synod. In them he pointed out, above all, how many were
the benefits he had received from the Synod. In it he had, by God's
grace, first come to the full knowledge of heavenly truth. Again and
again much love and kindness had been shown him. He had often felt
ashamed at the great love and trust shown him, despite his infirmities
and weakness. That the office of President had been taken from him did
not grieve him; on the contrary, he was thankful for this too; they had
done rightly, for his earthly lifetime was drawing near its end. He
therefore asked the brethren to continue to keep a kindly remembrance of
him; most of the brethren he would probably not see again here on
earth; he commended them all to the grace of God. "May He, the faithful
God, keep our dear Synod from going astray, from worldly, carnal
thinking; may He preserve it in the truth and grant it courage to
confess this divine truth boldly at all times. So may the Lord our God
bless the dear Missouri Synod and grant that all of us who are gathered
here now shall not be missing, one day, at the great synodical
assembly, where we shall be gathered in constant joy and delight and
shall praise God and His benefits without end."
