Theure Väter und Brüder! Sie wollen für Ihre Miſſionare im Heiden⸗

Ninth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1899. 79

sows and another reaps," or whether the fruit of our labor is to be made
known only on the Last Day itself, God's will be done! Through all of this,
the goal of your missionaries remains always the same: to make heathen —
through God's Word — into Christians, and then to gather them into
congregations.

Dear fathers and brethren! We ask you to entreat the Lord of the harvest for
your missionaries in the heathen country, that He grant them strength,
patience, and courage to keep sowing, and that, despite their unworthiness,
He grant them, sooner or later, also to reap with joy and to bring in their
sheaves.

In the name of the conference:

Krishnagiri, March 29, 1899. Th. Näther."

"To the Reverend Conference of the missionaries in East India associated
with the Missouri Synod.
Beloved brethren in the Lord!

The Delegate Synod of the German Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri,
Ohio, and Other States, presently assembled in St. Louis, Mo., returns to
you, in response to your brotherly greeting sent hither from the distant
heathen country, its brotherly greeting in return, and assures you of its
heartfelt intercession that the Lord our God, with His power and help, His
protection and shelter, His grace and faithfulness, may be and remain with
and among you; that He may preserve you in truth and in love; and that He
may grant blessing to your labor and victory to your struggle, according to
His good pleasure.

In the name and on behalf of the assembled Synod:

H. C. Schwan, President.
Aug. Rohrlack, Secretary.
St. Louis, Mo., May 3, 1899."

Resolved, that the Synod approves all the arrangements of the Commission for
Missions to the Heathen which it has made, according to its report, in the
mission field in East India.

Resolved, that the Commission for Missions to the Heathen be encouraged, as
soon as possible, to call two persons from within our Synod who possess the
gifts and ability needed for mission work in East India, and to send them out
at a suitable time to strengthen our mission staff in India.

The treasurer's report, which was audited and found correct, shows the
expenditure for carrying on the work of the mission to the heathen in East
India during the last three years — from May 1, 1896 to March 24, 1899 — at
the sum of $10,599.93. As to the salary and the necessary incidental expenses
for the four missionaries, it appears from this treasurer's report that the
annual salary for each of the missionaries amounts, in round figures, to
about $600.00, and the incidental expenses come to about $200.00.
