Annual Reports of the District Presidents. Nebraska District. 1884. 129
— without just and godly grounds for doing so — broken loose from us and
turned to a preacher of the Canada Synod for its services. All my
efforts, however loving and self-sacrificing, to prevent the
congregation from taking this step were rendered fruitless by the
agitation of a few individuals. This conduct of the Wartburg
congregation is committed to the Lord, who judges rightly and who
tries the hearts and minds [literally: the hearts and kidneys — Jer.
17:10].

President of the Canada District.
