40 Proceedings of the 19th General [Synod], or
Resolved, that the aforementioned sum of 300 dollars be paid subsequently, out of the Synod's treasury, to the surviving widow of the late steward Pfau.
Whereas the seminary at Springfield requires a married successor to Mr. Pfau as steward, while the widowed Mrs. Pfau is required to leave the institution upon his taking up his duties:
Resolved, that Mrs. Pfau, in recognition of her faithful services rendered to the institution even after her husband's death, be granted an annual pension of 100 dollars out of the Synod's treasury.
Resolved, that a copy of every publication also be supplied to the seminary library at Springfield.
Resolved, to approve that the Board of Control at Springfield, in order to provide the necessary sleeping quarters (in the form of outbuildings) for the large number of newly arrived pupils, has taken out a loan of 500 dollars at 6 percent.
Whereas Attorney Ernst Schwan has most zealously taken it upon himself to free the property at Springfield from the mortgage and the clause still encumbering it (see the Synodal Report of the *3rd* [Third] Delegate Synod of the year 1881, p. 52), and thereby undertook, on behalf of the Board of Control, a task involving much labor, loss of time, and expense, which he nevertheless took up gladly as an opportunity to repay a debt of gratitude to the Synod, at whose gymnasium [preparatory school] he had once received his own early training:
Resolved, that the thanks of the Synod be expressed to Attorney Ernst Schwan for his successful and unselfish efforts on its behalf up to this point.
Resolved, that the temporary building to be set up at Springfield be constructed according to the plan drawn up by Prof. Dr. Dümling, and that the present emergency structure be put to use for the provision of classrooms.
Resolved, that it be left to the Board of Control at Springfield, in conjunction with Dr. Dümling, to put up the buildings to be erected there provisionally at as little expense as possible.
Teachers' Seminary at Addison, Ill.
