Synod would be spared a huge outlay for a laundry facility." (From the report of the Board of Control.)
Resolved, that the congregations be asked to send in, now and then, a collection for the Addison "laundry fund."
On this occasion attention was also drawn to the shortage in the aid fund for poor pupils, and the request was voiced that this fund be more generously remembered, especially since, through the strong increase of so many new and in part quite poor pupils, the cost of maintaining them has risen considerably. Many among them often do not know where they are to get the board money, which they too are obligated to pay.

"As we . . . prepare to give a report to the Reverend Synod, in accordance with its charge, on the condition of the gymnasium [preparatory school] at Fort Wayne, we are very well aware of the high responsibility we bear toward the Reverend Synod in drawing it up. In view of the rumors that are often spread through private communications (whether by letter or by word of mouth) about the Synod's institutions, by which often neither our Synod nor its institutions are served, a Reverend Synod expects that the Board of Control called by it to this task give not only conscientious oversight of the institution entrusted to it, but also, after each period of three years, render an equally conscientious, truthful 'report on its condition in every respect' — a report in which nothing is glossed over or concealed, in which any faults and shortcomings are not passed over in silence, but through which a Reverend Synod is granted clear insight into the conditions at the institution in question.
"Conscious of this our responsibility in submitting the following report, we are glad to be able to give the Reverend Synod, regarding the most important matter we have to report on — namely, the moral condition of the institution at Fort Wayne — the assurance that there is no cause for complaint about any particular faults or shortcomings. We can rather testify to the Reverend Synod that, looking back over the past three years as well, it has cause to praise God for the great grace shown throughout this entire time. Not only do all the teachers, together with the Director of the institution, faithfully attend to their office, so that each, in his own particular office and field, applies all diligence in the instruction and upbringing of the pupils entrusted to them — letting their teaching, which indeed for the most part has the so-called secular sciences as its subject, above all be borne by God's
