Offenb. 2, 8—10.) Ihm allein ſei dafür Lob und
Dank in Ewigkeit.

(Siehe Be⸗
richt der Allgem. Synode vom Jahre 1881, S. 77.)
ſteht, in ihrem Berichte an

"This is the LORD's doing, and it is a wonder before our eyes.'
It has pleased him to say to our Synod: 'Behold, I have set before
thee an open door, and no man can shut it.' (Cf. Rev. 2:8-10.) To
him alone be praise and thanks for this in eternity. May he go on
further to remember us for good, for the sake of his dear Son Jesus
Christ!

                Friedrich Sievers."

                Foreign (Heathen) Mission.

"Although our Synod at present has no mission of its own among
the heathen, there is nevertheless a treasury for it, into which free
gifts still flow from time to time. — This mission also still holds
real property, for the faithful administration of which the Synod
must see to it through a commission appointed for that purpose."

So ran the report on the heathen mission three years ago. (See
the report of the General Synod of the year 1881, p. 77.) This time,
unfortunately, there is likewise not much more to report. It is true
that the above-named commission, at whose head stands Pastor Sievers
Sr., well known to us all and filled with a special love for this
mission, had expressed in its report to the Synod the urgent request
that it find means and ways for the conduct of the heathen mission —
even if, for the time being, only among the Indians of this country —
to be resumed, and had at the same time given hints as to how such a
beginning might possibly be brought about. There was, moreover,
before the Synod a petition from the Michigan District to the same
end, namely the resumption of the heathen mission; and finally the
pastoral conference at New York had also addressed to the Synod the
request that a beginning be made with the mission among the
Armenians — a request which that conference believed itself entitled
to press upon the Synod all the more urgently, since it, the
conference, in New York had made the acquaintance of a
theologically educated
                                                                        5
