Vierten Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1884. 39

Fourth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States. 1884. 39

"And further we urgently ask that the institution be remembered with gifts of love even more than before, since it needs this, for more than one reason, very badly indeed." (Report of the Board of Control.)

Resolved, that the gratuity of 100 dollars granted to Preceptor J. S. Simon be approved.

Resolved, that the salary of the man just named be raised to $1000 a year.

Since the institution lacks the room to house all its pupils, the Synod faced the necessity of remedying this problem. The question was raised whether it would not be better for the welfare of the institution if it were removed entirely from Springfield and relocated elsewhere. After careful deliberation it was

Resolved, that the seminary remain in Springfield for the time being.

Resolved, that the Board of Control be instructed, for the next three years — that is, until the time of the next Delegate Synod — to set up a temporary arrangement [*Provisorium*, a stopgap building], that is, to make such provision that, while the most indispensable comforts for the institution are supplied, it is kept in mind that after three years these may no longer be needed.

Resolved, that Dr. Dümling draw up a suitable plan for such a temporary arrangement and submit it to the Synod for its judgment.

Resolved, that the Board of Control be instructed to make an earnest effort to have removed from the property's deed (Deed) the clause under which the institution, together with the other property belonging to it, reverts to the original owner of the institution's building as soon as the latter ceases to be used exclusively for educational purposes.

Resolved, that a declaration be issued that the faculty at Springfield is under no obligation to lend out students as substitute teachers.

Whereas in the year 1874 the Delegate Synod resolved that Mr. Pfau, as steward of the pro-seminary at Springfield, should receive an annual salary of 200 dollars until the seminary itself was moved to Springfield — which move, however, took place in the year 1875; and whereas further, in the year 1878, the Delegate Synod resolved that Mr. Pfau, as steward of the seminary, be granted an annual salary of 300 dollars; and whereas he (Pfau) has not received the resulting balance owed him:
