Vierten Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1884. 31
„Was die Ehrw.
April an.

Fourth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States. 1884. 31
Business Proceedings.
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo.
"The most joyful and most important event in the history of our
Concordia Seminary at St. Louis — not only during the last three years,
but since its founding — is without doubt the construction of the new
seminary building, resolved on at the last delegate assembly and, by
God's help, happily completed, which was solemnly dedicated at the
beginning of last September amid such joyful and general participation.
May the Chief Shepherd and Bishop of the Church hold his almighty
hand protectively over the new house and let it remain what it has been
until now: a fruitful nursery of honest and faithful servants of his dear,
pure Word, to the glory of his majestic name.
"As for the Reverend Faculty of the seminary, the LORD has kept
all its members in fresh strength and good health and let them
administer their responsible office with long-tested faithfulness and
great blessing. Among the students, on the whole, a good Christian
spirit prevails. Thank God, there have been no excesses and, as a
result, no expulsions from the institution. Two, however, have left the
course of theological study, two had to give it up because of illness,
and one departed the institution because of his adherence to the false
doctrine of election by grace [*Gnadenwahlslehre*] of the Ohio Synod.
A very gifted and godly student, Aug. Knigge, was taken from us by the
LORD, according to his unsearchable counsel, through death.
"The number of students who attended the seminary during these
three years is as follows: 1881–1882, from our Synod 90, from the
Wisconsin Synod 1, from the Norwegian Synod 10; 33 sat for
examination. 1882–1883, from our Synod 85, from the Norwegian
Synod 11; 24 sat for examination. At present there are 106 students in
the institution, 97 from our Synod, 9 from the Norwegian Synod; 37 are
sitting for examination.
"The seminary's steward until now, Mr. H. Jungkuntz, gave up his
position as of May 1st on account of the poor health of his wife and
sister, having administered it for 8 years with great skill and
conscientious faithfulness. We hope to have found a suitable and
welcome replacement in the childless couple Mr. Robert Ebert and his
wife. He took up the office on April 24th.
"As regards the expenditures made necessary by the new building,
the Reverend Delegate Synod had given the supervisory board no
particular instructions or directions, and since the building committee
declined, in
