as edifying. At the afternoon sessions "business matters" were dealt with, of which "Home Mission" and the "higher educational institutions" took up most of the time. The proceedings on these give testimony to the zeal and willingness to sacrifice of the synod for the prospering of the kingdom of God.

2. Report on the Last Synodical Report of the Former Hon. Illinois Synod for the Year 1880.
The undersigned committee reports the following to the Hon. Synodical Conference: The report of the Synod of Illinois for the year 1880 was handed over to it for examination. In the report mentioned there is first treated the doctrine of Christian liberty in its application to life. In this particular regard is had to eating, drinking, clothing, and the choice of an earthly calling. In connection with this it is then especially emphasized what is to be thought of the frequenting of taverns, of so-called "treating," of dancing, of so-called life insurance, etc. — Further the synod treated theses on the theme: The unscripturalness of the secret societies, especially as applied to the orders of the Freemasons and of the Oddfellows. — All the proceedings are in accord with God's Word. The report closes with the statement that the Synod of Illinois has ceased to exist as such and has united with the Illinois District of the Missouri Synod into one body.
Respectfully,
The Committee:
C. M. Zorn.
C. Strasen.

Wisconsin Synod. The first thesis shows,
