leihen, was die Synodalkonferenz hiermit dankend anerkennt.
Kirchgebäudes in New Orleans betreffend, hiermit gutgeheißen wird.
Herr Direktor A. C. Burgdorf (Kaſſierer).
Ferner wurden noch folgende Beſchlüſſe gefaßt:
1. Beſchloſſen, daß wir Herrn Paſtor F. Lochner und Herrn
Direktor R. A. Biſchoff unſeren herzlichen Dank abſtatten für alle Ar⸗

As to the Commission's report first of all, it emerged from it that the Commission had indeed acted contrary to the instruction given it, which reads: "not to purchase property for the Negro Mission until the necessary money for it is on hand in the treasury"; this was acted against by the Commission's instructing the local committee in New Orleans to buy a church building. But the Conference soon recognized the unconditional necessity of such a procedure, since the purchase of a church building is absolutely required for the continued existence and prosperity of the Negro congregation concerned; moreover the location of the church building offered for sale is especially favorable, and any moment's delay could snatch this so suitable and advantageous opportunity out of our hands. In addition, Mr. Odendahl has made the friendly offer to lend us all the missing money for years without interest, which the Synodical Conference herewith gratefully acknowledges.
It was therefore unanimously
Resolved, that the Commission's procedure concerning the purchase of the church building in New Orleans is hereby approved.
A new election of the Mission Commission for the Negro Mission then took place by acclamation. Elected unanimously were
Professor F. Pieper,
Pastor C. F. W. Sapper and
Director A. C. Burgdorf (treasurer).
The following resolutions were further passed:
1. Resolved, that we express our heartfelt thanks to Pastor F. Lochner and Director R. A. Bischoff for all the work and trouble which they have had in editing the mission papers "Missionstaube" [Mission Dove] and "Lutheran Pioneer".
2. Resolved, that we urgently ask the said brethren to continue this work in future also.
3. Resolved, that Messrs. Karl Lange and G. Volk in St. Louis shall carry out an audit of the foregoing account of Treasurer Umbach on the spot.
The audit committee appointed 3 years ago to examine the account of Treasurer Umbach presented to the Synodical Conference in 1879 this time submitted the following report:
To the Evangelical Lutheran Synodical Conference,
assembled in Chicago, Ill.
The undersigned committee takes the liberty of reporting to the Hon. Synodical Conference that it assembled in the autumn of 1879 in St. Louis, Mo., in order, according to the commission received, to examine on the spot the account submitted in that year to the Hon. Synodical Conference at its convention in Columbus, Ohio, sub-
